KSRTC disburses ₹4.38 crore compensation to bereaved families, launches new commercial management software e-Vaneejya
Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) on Wednesday held a programme in Bengaluru to hand over relief cheques to the families of deceased employees and to launch a new commercial-management software, “e-Vaneejya”, aimed at digitising operations across the corporation’s bus-station shops.
At the event Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy and senior KSRTC officials presented compensation cheques to dependants of staff who died in accidents and from natural causes. The corporation highlighted its accident relief scheme — “Sarige Suraksha” — which provides ₹1 crore accident compensation to the families of employees who die in accidents, and the Employee Family Welfare Relief Scheme that was enhanced last year to provide higher payouts for deaths from health reasons. Officials and local reports said a number of families received cheques during the programme.
KSRTC also used the occasion to formally introduce e-Vaneejya, an in-house commercial management application developed by the corporation to streamline the administration of nearly two thousand (about 1,847) commercial stalls and kiosks at its bus stations. The software will automate stall licence management, invoicing, GST accounting, late-fee calculations and other revenue functions that were earlier handled manually, the corporation said. KSRTC expects the system to reduce delays, minimise accounting errors and improve transparency in fee collection.
Officials said the move to digitise commercial operations is part of a broader effort to modernise KSRTC’s systems and improve passenger amenities across depots and major bus terminals. According to KSRTC management, e-Vaneejya was developed using the corporation’s internal resources and will be rolled out across divisions to allow uniform billing, quicker invoice generation and easier tracking of commercial revenue streams. The system will also allow easier application and renewal of licences for stall operators.
On welfare, KSRTC reiterated that it has been steadily expanding staff safety and family support measures. The accident relief scheme — introduced in recent years — provides a lump sum to dependants irrespective of whether the accident happened on duty, and the family welfare relief amount for non-accidental deaths was raised in November 2023. At the ceremony, ministers and the managing director urged beneficiaries to use the funds prudently for education, housing and family needs and cautioned them against offers from unscrupulous money handlers
Local coverage of the event describes multiple payouts at the programme and highlights the ₹1 crore accident cheques and several ₹10 lakh family welfare payments given on the day. I could not find a single English-language official release that independently verifies the exact total figure of ₹4.38 crore online; major regional reports focus on the scheme details and the launch of e-Vaneejya.
