Nitish Kumar unanimously emerged as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance Legislature Party (NDA) in a meeting a day prior to the oath taking ceremony. He is geared to swear in as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the record tenth time today. The oath ceremony is held at Patna’s iconic Gandhi Maidan, which will draw a massive crowd and high-profile dignitaries, marking a strong show of force by the ruling NDA alliance. Prominent figures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are among the key attendees. Several Union Ministers and Chief Ministers of other states will also be present in the ceremony underscoring the political significance of the occasion.
This historic oath ceremony comes after NDA's massive victory in the 2025 Bihar Legislative Assembly election. NDA won over 200 out of 243 seats in this landslide win. The massive mandate gave the way for Nitish Kumar to consolidate power and stake his claim for another term as CM.
In addition to Nitish Kumar, the new Bihar cabinet will feature two deputy chief ministers: Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, both from the BJP. Sources suggest the NDA government could include 16 BJP ministers and 14 from JD(U), with several fresh faces making their debut.
Political analysts see this swearing-in as more than just a ceremonial event—it’s a symbol of political continuity and dominance for Nitish Kumar and the NDA. By taking oath at Gandhi Maidan with the backing of top national leaders, Mr. Kumar is reinforcing his image as a seasoned statesman and a pillar of stability in Bihar politics.
Senior JD(U) members, NDA partners, and newly elected MLAs are expected to rally behind his leadership, highlighting the message of unity and governance. Many in the public view this tenth swearing-in as a mandate to deliver on development promises, especially after the electoral success in the 2025 elections.
As Nitish Kumar begins his tenth term as Chief Minister, the spotlight will now focus on his government’s agenda: development in Bihar, strong governance, and leveraging the NDA’s majority to push policy reforms. With the swearing-in ceremony, stakeholders across the state will closely observe how Nitish’s new cabinet shapes the future of Bihar politics.
